So there's only one channel in this motel,
This morning while I was getting ready I was watching Sesame Street.
They were doing this bit where some clown was trying to wash his hands but kept washing his feet or his elbows and Elmo would go, “no mister noodle, your HANDS!” and all the tv kids would laugh.
Around the fourth or fifth time he couldn’t find his hands, I heard a grown man yell from somewhere else in the motel, “GODDAMMIT, MR. NOODLE.”

This reminds me of an article about online (heterosexual) dating that I read a while ago. It listed men’s and women’s worst fears about meeting someone from online. The highest ranked fear that men had was that their date would be fat, whereas the highest ranked fear that women had was that their date would turn out to be violent and kill them.
I think that says a lot.

This is a pretty classic privilege dynamic I think, and one that we as a society tend to downplay in order to give the privileged even more volume.
Men are afraid women will laugh at them or won’t have sex with them, women are afraid men will kill them.
Rich people are upset that everyone else is calling them “greedy” instead of “job creators”, everyone else is upset that they can’t afford health care.
White people are afraid of being called racist by people of color, people of color are afraid of being killed by white people (especially white people in positions of authority, like police).
Straight people are afraid of having their “marriages ruined” by other people getting married, queer people are afraid of being beaten to death.
Cis people are afraid of having to share a bathroom with someone different than they are, trans people are afraid of being murdered.
This is really just a perfect X, Y statement to sum up the most basic tenet of privilege: if you are privileged, the majority of the time you don’t fear for your basic survival.

But even if Caleb makes a full recovery and meets his son, what happened late Friday evening at the movie theater could ruin the young family’s finances. Caleb doesn’t have health insurance, and his medical bills could amount to $2 million, according to his family.
Longtime friend Michael West has created a websiteto raise money for Caleb, who has been an aspiring stand-up comedian since the eighth grade. “He needs to get better because he needs to be a dad,” West said.
This man went to a movie, and now he is facing medical bills that will likely bankrupt him and his family. He did nothing wrong, yet the goddamn Tea Party and goddamn Mitt Romney and goddamn Ron Paul will tell him, his wife, and their unborn child that they are on their own because of reasons.
We need single-payer healthcare in America, and we have to do something as a nation about all the goddamn guns.

MISSING CHILD ALERT
Vanessa Sowl is a 15 year old West Jordan, Utah girl who should have been home on noon Monday and has not been heard from since that morning, if anyone knows where she may be or has seen her contact local authorities.
The police aren’t taking this seriously and her mother cannot reach her on her cellphone as she has either turned it off or the battery has died.

Hi guys! I know a lot of people on tumblr love animals. Dogs, cats, bunnies, the lot.
My parents happen to live near a shelter for animals called Pike County Humane Society. It’s a no-kill shleter. They don’t turn any animal away.
While the animals are there, they get to play outside (cats included!) and they are well fed. If the animal is sick, the shelter pays for it out of their own pockets. Even surgeries.
As you know, trips to the vet are incredibly expensive.
Even so, PCHS only asks for 75 dollars when a family adopts a pet. All of their money comes from donations.
Unfortunately, not many people have donated to the shelter. They are running dangerously low on money and might have to close in less than two weeks.
This is the shelter to hundreds of animals.
My parents and I have donated $300+ to the shelter. We are trying to help as much as we can, but one family is not enough.
Any sort of donation is going to help, and even if you can’t donate anything at all, please reblog this to get this to as many people as possible.

In 2009, Najibullah Zazi sent three e-mails from his Aurora apartment to a suspected terrorist in Pakistan asking about the ingredients necessary to bake something for an upcoming marriage.
Within hours, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was on to him.
Agents monitored his calls. They followed him across the country. They became particularly alarmed when they learned he had purchased large quantities of hydrogen peroxide, a hair dye.
Almost three years later and 15 miles away, James Eagan Holmes was filling his home with armament. He had regular deliveries of ammunition for a military-style AR-15 rifle, two handguns and a shotgun he purchased over the course of 60 days. There were about 6,000 rounds in all, another 300 shotgun shells and a high-capacity drum for the rifle. In all, it amounted to more than 200 pounds of ordnance.
All of it legal. None of it, apparently, noticed by or reported to police. None of it the slightest bit disconcerting to ammunition suppliers, delivery drivers or neighbors.
