The above article is an update. Her mother went to appeal to keep her out of the psychiatric ward and lost. She will be institutionalized because of her expression of her gender. She will be held until she conforms to male gender and then released to foster care, not her mother who was supporting her.
Please, if you haven’t signed the petition, sign it, reblog it, ask your friends to sign it. We’ve managed to get 40K signatures for a pageant model, we’ve only gotten 11K for a little girl about to have her life ruined. Lets get on the ball and spread the word.

According to a diplomatic cable published by WikiLeaks, U.S. troops willfully massacred an Iraqi family in the town of Ishaqi in 2006, handcuffing and then shooting 11 people in the head including a woman in her 70′s and five children ages five and under.
McClatchy is reporting that the soldiers then called in an air strike on the house to cover up evidence of the killings.
This account differs sharply from an official version of the 2006 incident, which indicated that coalition forces captured an al Qaeda in Iraq operative in the house, which was destroyed in a firefight. The WikiLeaks cable, however, corroborates accounts by Ishaqi townspeople and includes questions about the incident by Philip Alston, the U.N.’s special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions.
The cable is dated twelve days after the incident, which took place March 15, 2006. In it, Alston says that autopsies performed in Tikrit on bodies pulled from the wreckage of the farmhouse indicated that all of the dead had been handcuffed and shot in the head.
If true, this action, although not as egregious as the My Lai massacre of March 16, 1968, wherein 347-504 unarmed civilians were shot to death by U.S. forces during the Vietnam conflict, still speaks volumes about war and the atrocities committed for war’s sake.

Oh my God.
Houston judge Lanny Moriarty • On his decision to sentence a 17-year-old honor student, who (since her parents divorced and both skipped town) has had to work both a full and a part time job just to support two siblings, to spend a day in jail, after she missed school recently. Diane Tran, who also takes dual-credit college-level courses, says that she’s often so tired that she finds it difficult to wake up for school. But that didn’t sway Moriarty, who chose to make an example of Tran. If you think this sucks, we direct you to this Change.org petition.
To the parents and judge; What The Fuck??

PROBLEM: Women’s bare bodies are on display in billboards, movie posters, and many other kinds of ads. Though plenty of studies have looked at the ramifications of this pervasive sexual objectification, it’s unclear if we see near-naked people as human beings or if we really do view them as mere objects.
METHODOLOGY: Researchers led by Philippe Bernard presented participants pictures of men and women in sexualized poses, wearing a swimsuit or underwear, one by one on a computer screen. Since pictures of people present a recognition problem when they’re turned upside down, but images of objects don’t have that problem, some of the photos were presented right side up and others upside down. After each picture, there was a second of black screen before each participant was shown two images and was asked to choose the one that matched the one he or she had just seen.

This is cool, and I think it adds a really important dimension to understanding the objectification of women, but it bothers me a bit that only after the phenomenon is measurable can it be considered “real.”
Like, how the fuck wasn’t it real before?
ok hmm this isn’t going to be super articulate but i think identity words matter!
like, the reason anyone started calling themselves gay was to differentiate from straight people? because straight is the default. if you don’t call yourself gay then people unfortunately are going to assume you’re straight, which is shitty and awful but that’s how it is! obviously some individuals are different but people as a whole are still very very heteronormative
and if you go up to somebody and try to say, ugh, why do you have to call yourself gay, just live your life loving the same sex and get on with it, don’t make it a federal issue, sheesh
you’re basically denying that liking the same sex has any ramifications other than who you’re going to end up boning? you’re implying that it’s as easy as saying yeah this is what my sexy bits want to do and that’s it, end of the story, no one cares, there’s no cultural associations with sexy bit activity. which is! really wrong!!! it’s really wrong a lot holy shit people die because of the associations there are with sexy bit activity — the stigmas and stereotypes and taboos and rules and etc
what kind of people?
gay people
obviously that’s just one example of tons but
that’s why identification words are important, that’s why it matters, because it’s an active political gesture, it’s a verbal association of yourself with a particular group of people who are all harmed in some way by the belief that they way they are is wrong, it’s a verbal association of yourself with an experience and a community
it’s a fucking revolutionary statement
it’s refusing to be erased
